I am pretty sure that good summary of the final scene between Feld and Sobel in The First Seven Years by Bernard Malamud is being revealed by the statement : Feld confronts Sobel about Miriam. Sobel wins the argument. Feld lets Sobel and Miriam marry. I choose this one because according to the plot, his confronation opened his eyes and made him realize that he performed wrong actions towards Miriam.
