A simile is a figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind, used to make a description more emphatic or vivid. Now, you simply have to find the simile, and think about how you can interpret it. Since you did not attach the excerpt I can’t answer but at least this is how to do it.

I think sport figures and celebrities make negative role models. More often than not, a celebrity has or is doing drugs, using alcohol, has been arrested, wearing revealing clothing, etc. A celebrity many people looked up to and aspired to be may mimic what this celebrity does. If this celebrity decides to do go as far as doing drugs or become an alcoholic, then the people looking up to this celebrity may follow in their footsteps and attempt to be like them. This would make celebrities negative role models.
I couldn't come up with anything for how sports figures are bad role models other than they might overwork themselves, so people may try to perform as good as the sport figure. hope this helps
