Think of integers that have a sum (addition) of 8 that don't include negative integers.

4+4=8
6+2=8
5+3=8

Pat is right there are three different pairs of integers that can have a sum of 8.

Both integers must be positive or negative. You cannot have a positive integer and a negative integer. Also, you cannot have zero. You can't use 4 and 4 or -4 and -4 because then you'd have the same integer.

|1 + 7| = 8

|2 + 6| = 8

|3 + 5| = 8

|-1 + (-7)| = 8

|-2 + (-6)| = 8

|-3 + (-5)| = 8

There are 6 pairs of numbers that match the description. I do not agree with Pat.
