Why are marriages between blood relatives prohibited in the united states and other countries?

Biology

Marriages or any form of sexual relations between blood relatives is incest and is completely prohibited in the United States and most other countries of the world.

There are two reasons for this:

1. Religious: Most major world religions prohibit marriages between blood relatives. In countries where church and other religious institutions had a strong following, incest remains a crime.

2. Biological: Medical Science has proven that off-springs of close relatives e.g. brother-sister, first cousins and even second cousins have a high chance of genetic mutation which can lead to various health issues. This is the main reason why modern societies prohibit incest

Location, structure, function of xylem tissue
kati45 [8]

Answer:

The xylem is located in the root, stem and the leaves of a plant.

The xylem contains dead cells arranged end-to-end forming continuous vessels. They have a hollow central space (lumen) through which water passes. They walls contain lignin.

The xylem carries water and minerals, up from the roots to the rest of the plant.

C. At what height would the pomegranate have the same potential energy as the melon? (1 point)
zvonat [6]

Answer:

Given a set of assumptions which are given below, the height at which the pomegranate will have the same potential energy as the melon is 39.19 meters.

Explanation:

Gravitational Potential Energy refers to the acquired innate energy of an object due to its elevation above the surface of the earth.

This energy is the result of gravitational pull or force acting on the object.

In other to determine at what height a pomegranate and a watermelon will have the same potential energy we need to know the other factors in play.

Gravitational Potential Energy (Ep)= mgh

Where m = Mass (kg)

            g  =  gravitational field strength (N/kg)

            h  = height (m)

           Ep = gravitational potential energy ( j )

Let us assume that the

  • An average pomegranate weighs about 0.255146Kg
  • An average melon weighs about 10Kg
  • g is always constant at 9.8 N/kg

Note that melons weight much more than pomegranates.

So, let's calculate for the Ep of the melon at the height of 1 meter

Ep = 10 x 9.8 X 1 = 98j

Using the above assumptions, we do a goal seek using Microsoft Excel. Please see the attached image.

Calculation shows that the Height (h/Meters) at which the Ep of both veggies become equal is 39.19m

This can be verified by inserting the figure and multiplying it. It can also be calculated as follows:

That is

Ep = 98j

m = 0.255146kg

g= 9.8kg

h=  ?

98= 0.255146 x 9.8 x h

98 = 2.5004308h (we divide both sides by 2.5004308 to make h the subject matter)

h = 98 / 2.5004308

h = 39.1932462198

Which is approximately 39.19
