A conversation between Newfoundland and Canada in 1949.
Canada: Well Newfoundland. I think the time has come to talk about a possible annexation to us.
- Newfoundland: Well yes. I guess its about time we got together to discuss some matters regarding this.
- Canada: How is your financial situation going?
- Newfoundland: We have had better times... we are nearly reaching $ 50 million in debt. I was wondering if you could help me out with this. I promise to manage stuff responsibly from now on.
- Canada: That proposal does not suit me at all. I will give you a hand if you agree to join me as a province.
- Newfoundland: I guess I have not much of a choice. I agree with your proposal.
- Canada: Well. It appears we have a deal then!
I think that Adam Smith would be more supportive of globalization of multinational corporations since his major work, the Wealth of Nations dealt with the workings of the capitalist system and supported it. I think that Karl Marx would be strongly opposed to the control that the multi-nationals have over their neo-colonies but at the same time would applaud the way that globalization has developed solidarity between the working class of the different countries such as between the major capitalist countries and the so-called Third World countries.
