At that, the immigrants came because they heard the rumor that American gave out several pieces of free land that they can turn into any business they want through the Homestead Act.
But the influx of immigrants that came in surpass the amount of land that is available to be given away. As a result, many of these immigrants did not get the land and find difficulties in finding a way to fulfill their basic needs. So, almost half of immigrants in late 1800s decided to move back to their hometown.
