Answer:

let's use Pythagoras theorem,

h²=b²+l²

so,

ad²=ac²+dc²

6²=ac²+3²

36-9=ac²=27

√27 can be written as 3√3,

hence ac= 3√3

The equation of the line passing through the points (-1, 8) and (3, 16) can be expressed as y = mx + b. Give the value of b.
vichka [17]

The slope -intercept form of linear equation is y=mx+b.

Where m= slope and b=y-intercept.

Formula to find m is,

m=\frac{y_{2}-y_{1}}{x_{2}-x_{1}}

The line passes through (-1, 8) and (3, 16) . So, we can plug in x1=-1, y1=8, x2=3 and y2=16 in the above formula. So,

m=\frac{16-8}{3-(-1)}

m=\frac{8}{3+1}

m=\frac{8}{4}

So, m=2

Now we can plug in m=2, x=3 and y=16 in y=mx+b to get the value of b. So,

16=2*3+b

16=6+b

16-6=b

So, b=10.
