At its height, the Ottoman Empire spanned from Hungary in the north to Yemen in the south, and from Algeria in the west to Iraq in the east. Administered at first from the city of Bursa, the empire's capital was moved to Edirne in 1363 following its conquest by Murad I, and then to Constantinople (present-day Istanbul) in 1453 following its conquest by Mehmed II.[1]

The Ottoman Empire's early years have been the subject of varying narratives due to the difficulty of discerning fact from legend. The empire came into existence at the end of the thirteenth century, and its first ruler (and the namesake of the Empire) was Osman I. According to later, often unreliable Ottoman tradition, Osman was a descendant of the Kayı tribe of the Oghuz Turks.[2] The eponymous Ottoman dynasty he founded endured for six centuries through the reigns of 36 sultans. The Ottoman Empire disappeared as a result of the defeat of the Central Powers with whom it had allied itself during World War I. The partitioning of the Empire by the victorious Allies and the ensuing Turkish War of Independence led to the abolition of the sultanate in 1922 and the birth of the modern Republic of Turkey in 1923.[3]

Read the secondary source below. Which of the following actions would be best help a historian to the author’s conclusion
marishachu [46]

C. Locate sources that contradict the author's evidence and conclusions.

Notice some of the broad, sweeping claims made by the author, without support from any cited references:

"I think its capital city had the largest population of any city in all world history." All of world history would include modern cities that have vastly more population than any city in ancient Greece.

"I bet its military conquered nearly all of Europe, Asia, and Africa." That didn't happen -- thus no authoritative sources to cite to prove it did.

"I've heard a report that said" ... What report? Where? Cite the source!

A historian would be able to challenge and refute the claims of this author by citing actual, reliable material that contradicts his unfounded claims.

What are two major political events in the 1980s
kompoz [17]

Answer:

During the 1980s, conservative politics and Reaganomics held sway as the Berlin Wall crumbled, new computer technologies emerged and blockbuster movies and MTV reshaped pop culture.

Chernobyl.

Exxon Valdez Oil Spill.

History of AIDS.

Challenger Explosion.

Iran-Contra Affair.

The Central Park Five.

The 1980s.

Just Say No.

Explanation:

The 1980s were a decadent, catastrophic, and groundbreaking decade, not just in the United States, but in many parts of the world as well. The decade hosted a remarkable range of environmental, political, and pop-cultural events. It was the decade of Ronald Reagan in America who had a conservative agenda that shaped the economic and political fortunes of the United States.

Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of the United States, was shot and wounded by John Hinckley on March 30, 1981, in Washington, D.C. This happened as he was returning to his limousine after doing a speech at the Washington Hilton Hotel. According to John Hinckley, he did it to impress the actress Jodie Foster, who starred in the Taxi Driver film in 1976. Ever since he watched the film, he became obsessed with Foster.

The Fall of the Berlin Wall was one of the most famous scenes in history. It was also a pivotal event as it marked thebeginning of the fall of communism in Central and Eastern Europe. The Berlin Wall was a concrete barrier that was guarded. It physically and ideologically divided Berlin from 1961 to 1989. It was commenced by the German Democratic Republic, to completely cut-off West Berlin to East Berlin and East Germany. It was built to stop East Germans from going over to the West.
