The city planning committee is discussing making a bike path extension in its city park. They have a $5050 budget for the propos

ed project. The cost to construct the path is $2.20 per foot. The path would be a straight line from the fountain to the large oak tree. In the right triangle formed, the height is 880 ft and the base is 2112 ft. How much will the path cost? Will this work with the city planning budget?

You can solve this using the Pythagorean Theorem

a^2 + b^2 = c^2
880^2 + 2112^2 = c^2
774400 + 4460544 = c^2
c^2 = 5234944
\sqrt{c^2} = \sqrt{5234944}
c = 2288 ft

$2.20 x 2288 ft = $5033.60
The budget is for $5050 so this will work.

How are patterns used to solve problems?
rosijanka [135]
Patterns can help muliply and divide. For an example say your problem is 6x2 you can do 2+2+2+2+2+2. Or if your problem is 21 divided by 3 you could do 21-3 untill you get to zero and count how many time you had to subtract.

Which equation in point-slope form contains the point (4, –1) and has slope 3?
Andrew [12]

Answer:

y+1=3(x-4)

Step-by-step explanation:

Hi there!

We are given a slope of 3 and a point (4,-1).

We need to find the equation of the line in point-slope form

Point-slope form is given as y-y1=m(x-x1), where m is the slope, and (x1,y1) is a point

We have all of the needed information to substitute into the formula

First, let's label the values of everything to avoid any confusion

m=3

x1=4

y1=-1

now substitute into the formula *remember, the formula has SUBTRACTION, and we have a NEGATIVE number, so we'll end up subtracting a negative*

y--1=3(x-4)

simplify

y+1=3(x-4)

That's it!

Hope this helps :)
