Answer:

Personally, I agree with the existence of a two-party system in American politics, since I believe that from this system, the liberal and conservative currents of the nation are framed in one or another party, thus avoiding fragmentation of the different positions politics in minority parties, or that political parties of extremist dyes are generated that can damage the democracy of the nation.

Even so, I consider that certain specific issues defended by third parties should be heard and defended by the majority parties, which is why I support the existence of third parties only for the purposes of expressing specific cases (such as environmental rights, animal rights, etc. ) but not for the purposes of real competition in national politics.

RUDIKE [14]

Referendums are elections in which voters do not elect representatives but participate in taking direct participation on some important issue of the country. As advantages, it is highlighted that the Referendum can be used to solve problems of a political nature, or the improvement of the governmental image, when it is too deteriorated in front of the popular collective. Another aspect that touches a possible disadvantage, has to do with the circumstance that can be used as a strategy or political weapon to satisfy political interests or ambitions of power. It has also been argued that this figure has a meaning called "zero sum", that is, where the majority wins everything and the minority loses everything, originating a tyranny of majorities, that have answered one or several questions about a specific issue and that in the case at hand, has to do with the end of the armed conflict, questions that are closed and must be answered with the yes or no.

The territories that the United States gained from Mexico were -supposed to be slave states due to the Missouri Compromise. -all
raketka [301]

Answer:  Acquired after the Missouri Compromise, which did not include those territories.

Explanation:

The Mexican Cession was the large region of land that Mexico ceded to the United States in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848.  It included territory that would later become the states of California, Nevada, Utah, and parts of what would become Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Wyoming.

The Missouri Compromise (1820) had admitted Missouri into the Union as a slave state with Maine being added at the same time to keep the balance of slave and free states equal.  It also prohibited any future slave states north of the 36/30' latitude line north of the equator in territories of the Louisiana Purchase, with the exception of Missouri (north of that line) being admitted as a slave state.  Since that latitude line ran right through the middle of the Mexican Cession territory, and because the Missouri Compromise had only addressed lands acquired in the Louisiana Purchase territories, there was bound to be further debate over the issue of slave vs. free states.
