Many things could change. For starters, he could reach the new shore 10 times as faster thanks to modern ships and/or airplanes that could land even where there are no runways. He wouldn't even have to go there to find it since he could use satellites to scan the Earth and see that there's a large land mass there, instantly figure out that it's not India but rather a new continent, and he could just go there in a plane in a single day of travel or so.
