The day of equinox is the day of sunrise or sunset at the North or South Pole. That's a big change up there, where it is dark for 6 months, then light for 6 months (approximately -- twilight lasts for several weeks before sunrise and after sunset!)

Tundras are very cold and harsh. They have no trees and little vegetation, although there may be wildflowers in the summer, due to indirect sunlight. There is barely sufficient rainfall and the climate is often windy. Animals include caribou, birds, polar bears, wolves and arctic foxes (to name a few).
