Answer: PTC gene has two main alleles; one that codes for tasting and the other non-tasting. The allele for tasting determines a trait of tongue papillae that can bind the PTC molecules. Non-tasting allele forms papillae that are unable to bind PTC effectively. Therefore, the combination of these alleles in the genotype of a person determines their phenotype – PTC sensitivity.

Answer:

Individuals are often characterized as “tasters” or “non-tasters” of PTC, but there is some variability amongst tasters in how much bitterness they can detect. ... The ability to taste PTC is due changes in the TAS2R38 gene that affects the function of bitter taste receptors on the tongue therefore, the combination of these alleles in the genotype of a person determines their phenotype – PTC sensitivity.

The cell theory eventually replaced the concept of spontaneous generation as a result of what experimental evidence?
miskamm [114]

Answer & explanation:

The cell was discovered in 1669 by the English scientist Robert Hooke when looking at a piece of tissue in a two-lens microscope. Hooke was able to visualize small cavities in the experiment piece, then naming such cell cavities.

Only a century and a half after the discovery of the cell, that the Cell Theory was launched, replacing the theory of spontaneous generation (or abiogenesis).

Before that, many scientists were already busy understanding the structure and functioning of the cell, generating knowledge that became fundamental to the development of biology, specifically cytology, a branch of science that studies the structure, functions and development of cells.
