Doris Miller was the First Afro American hero of the World War II. He served as a US naval serviceman and greatly appreciated for his courageousness during the attack on Pearl Harbour in the year 1941. For his contribution in the war, the medal was awarded for bravery on board the battleship West Virginia during the Pearl Harbour attack.
