Write the equation of the line that passes through the points (7, –9)

Mathematics

Answer:

y=\frac{-5}{6}x+14\frac{5}{6}

Step-by-step explanation:

The equation of a line is y=mx+b

to find the equation of the line you need its gradient(m) and its y intercept(b)

the gradient is

\frac{y1-y2}{x1-x2}

y1= the y value of the first point which is -9

y2=the y value of the second point which is -4

x1=the x value of the first point which is 7

x2=the x value of the first point which is 1

then input the values into the equation

\frac{(-9)-(-4)}{(7)-(1)}

=\frac{-9+4}{6}

=\frac{-5}{6}

to find the y just times the x by the gradient and then minus it from the y

-9-(7 x \frac{-5}{6})=14\frac{5}{6}

making the equation y=\frac{-5}{6}x+14\frac{5}{6}

How do you write a polynomial function for this graph?
expeople1 [14]

first off, let's notice the graph touches the x-axis at -1 and 3, namely, those are the zeros/solutions/roots of the polynomial and therefore, the factors come from those points.

now, at -1, the graph doesn't cross the x-axis, instead it <u>simply bounces off</u> of it, that means the zero of x = -1, has an even multiplicity, could be 4 or 2 or 6, but let's go with 2.

at x = 3, the graph does cross the x-axis, meaning it has an odd multiplicity, could be 3 or 1, or 7 or 9, but let's use 1.

\bf \begin{cases} x=-1\implies &x+1=0\\ x=3\implies &x-3=0 \end{cases}~\hspace{5em}\stackrel{\textit{even multiplicity}}{(x+1)^2}\qquad \stackrel{\textit{odd multiplicity}}{(x-3)^1}=\stackrel{y}{0} \\\\\\ (x^2+2x+1)(x-3)=y\implies x^3+2x^2+x-3x^2-6x-3=y \\\\[-0.35em] \rule{34em}{0.25pt}\\\\ ~\hfill x^3-x^2-5x-3=y~\hfill

The owner of an office building is expanding the length and width of a parking lot by the same amount. The lot currently measure
Gnoma [55]

The best and most correct answer among the choices provided by your question is the second choice or letter B "20".

The current area is 120(80)=9600 and he want to expand it by 4400 so that the new area will be 9600+4400=14000

14000=(120+x)(80+x)

14000=9600+200x+x^2

x^2+200x-4400=0

x^2-20x+220x-4400=0

x(x-20)+220(x-20)=0

(x+220)(x-20)=0, since x is an increase it must be greater than zero so

x=20ft

(120+20)(80+20)=14000ft^2
