Read the passage. (1) Many American men were drafted during World War II. (2) Many other men volunteered to serve. (3) In fact,

so many men entered the armed services that professional baseball experienced a shortage of good players. (4) Philip K. Wrigley had an interesting solution to the problem. (5) He started a new league. (6) It was called the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL). (7) To find good players, he scouted women’s softball clubs. (8) They were very popular at that time. (9) The AAGPBL was a hit. (10) In 1948, the year in which the league reached its high point of popularity, more than a million fans came to watch AAGPBL games. (11) The league produced many fine players, including Mary “Bonnie” Baker. (12) Dorothy Kamenshek was also a fine player. (13) After World War II ended, the AAGPBL declined in popularity. Which is the most effective way to combine sentences 7 and 8? To find good players, he scouted women’s softball clubs, which were very popular at that time. To find good players, he scouted women’s softball clubs, and they were very popular at that time. To find good players, he scouted, women’s softball clubs being very popular at that time. To find good players, he scouted women’s softball clubs very popular at that time.

<span>"To find good players, he scouted women’s softball clubs, which were very popular at that time." is the correct answer. The last choice makes it sound like he's only scouting the popular women's softball clubs rather than all of them. The second to last option is not grammatically correct because of the comma between scouted and women's. The second option just replaces the period with  a comma and and, which makes it still seem as if the two pieces of information are separate.</span>

How does Jefferson changes Grant in a Lesson Before Dying?
snow_lady [41]

Answer: Grant can be a "hero" only through his interaction with Jefferson.

Explanation:  Grant realizes that he had falsely regarded self-worth to things such as education and that there was much more to a human than his original understanding and he recognizes this when he says “My eyes were closed before this moment, Jefferson. My eyes have been closed all my life.” (Gaines, 2002, p. 225”).  Jefferson taught him that redemption belongs to everyone and that his duty to his community is worth much more than he initially thought it did.

Grant can be weak, cynical, and negative, but by just helping Jefferson and made some change, however small, is a huge thing. Grant was taught that his work and that he himself had some good attributes.  Grant's commitment to his community, even if it's something that drives him crazy, is a huge role Jefferson plays in, and it shows change and commitment in his character afterwords.
