The lived less harder lives than the slaves but they also worked the lands. They were legally tied to the Lord of the Manor but were free men according to the law. Villeins could have their own houses and sometimes have small shops.
Although the largest, the Cumberland Island is the Georgia's barrier island that mostly remains in its natural state because of its inaccessibility and the stewardship of past owners. This is why it is a desirable source of resources and wildlife.
