At time t=0 hours, a tank contains 3000 litres of water. Water leaks from the tank. At the end of every hour there is x% less wa

ter in the tank than at the start of the hour. The volume of water, in litres, in the tank at time t hours is Vt. Given that Vt=KtV0 V2=2881.2 work out the value of k and the value of x.

Answer:

x = 2; K = 0.98

Step-by-step explanation:

At time, t = 0, Volume of Water = 3,000 litres

After t hours , the Volume of water in the tank = Vt

At the end of every hour there is a x% less water in the tank then at the start of the hour

After 1 hour, volume of water left Vt = V1

V1 = 3,000 - 3000 × (x/100)

V1 = 3,000 - 30x

After 2 hours, Volume of water left is V2

V2 = (3,000 - 30 x) - (3,000 - 30 x) × (x/100)

V2 = (3,000 - 30 x) - (3000x - 30x²)/100

V2 = {100(3000 - 30x) - x(3000 - 30x)} /100

V2 = {(3000 - 30x)(100 - x)}/100

Recall, V2 = 2881.2

Therefore

{(3000 - 30x)(100 - x)}/100 = 2881.2

(3000 - 30x)(100 - x) = 288120

300000 - 3000 x - 3000 x + 30 x² = 288120

30 x ² - 6000 x + 11880 = 0

Dividing both sides by 30

x² - 200 x + 396=0

Factorizing:

(x -198)(x-2) = 0

x = 198 or x = 2

Since the percentage by which the water reduces cannot be greater than 100, x = 2 is chosen.

Step 2: Solving for k

Given that Vt=KtV0

K = Vt/V0

At t = 1

V1 = 3000 - 30x

V1 = 3000 - 30 × 2

V1 = 3000 - 60

V1 = 2940

K = 2940/3000

K = 0.98

A piece of wire of length L will be cut into two pieces, one piece to form a square and the other piece to form an equilateral t
inn [45]

Answer:

  (a)  square: L; triangle: 0.

  (b)  square: L·(-16+12√3)/11; triangle: L·(27-12√3)/11

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Strategy</u>: First we will write each area in terms of its perimeter. Then we will find the total area in terms of the amount devoted to the square. Differentiating will give a way to find the minimum total area.

__

In terms of its perimeter p, the area of a square is ...

  A_square = p^2/16

In terms of its perimeter p, the area of an equilateral triangle is ...

  A_triangle = p^2/(12√3)

Then the total area of the two figures whose total perimeter is L with "x" devoted to the square is ...

  A_total = x^2/16 + (L-x)^2/(12√3)

__

(a) We know when polygons are regular, the one with the most area for the least perimeter is the one with the most sides. Hence, the total area is maximized when all of the wire is devoted to the square.

__

(b) The derivative of A_total with respect to x is ...

  dA/dx = x/8 -(L-x)/(6√3)

This will be zero when ...

  x/8 = (L-x)/(6√3)

  x(6√3) = 8L -8x

  x(8 +6√3) = 8L

  x = L·8/(6√3 +8) = 8L(6√3 -8)/(64-108)

  x = L·(12√3 -16)/11

The total area is minimized when L·(12√3 -16)/11 is devoted to the square, and the balance is devoted to the triangle.

If the relationship is proportional, we have

\frac{99}{x} = \frac{9}{12}

from where

x =  \frac{99*12}{9}= \frac{1188}{9}=\bold{132}

The answer is 132 kilometers.

PLEASE HELP WILL GIVE BRAINLIEST Abby purchased 4 2/5 gallons of paint to paint 4 walls of a room in her house. the cost of one
natima [27]

Answer:

Cost to paint 4 walls of a room = $24.20

Cost of painting 3 walls of a room =$18.15

Step-by-step explanation:

(a) Abby purchased 4 2/5 gallons of paint to paint 4 walls of a room in her house.

4\frac{2}{5}gallons \ of \ paint = \frac{4*5+2}{5} =\frac{22}{5}

1 gallon cost = 5.50

So 22/5 gallons cost = \frac{22}{5} * 5.5= 24.20

Cost to paint 4 walls of a room = $24.20

(b)cost of painting 4 walls of a room = $24.20

cost of painting 1 wall of a room = \frac{24.20}{4} =6.05

Cost of painting 3 walls of a room = 6.05 * 3= $18.15
