A scientist has saline solutions with concentrations of 4% and 14% . He wants to mix some of each solution to get 65 milliliters
Komok [63]
Let volume of 4% solution = x and of 14% be y

them x + y = 65........(1)    also  using the actual weights of  salt:-

0.04x + 0.14y  =  65*0.06 = 3.9

multiplying the above equation by  -25 we have

-x - 3.5y = -97.5    adding this to equation (1)

--2.5y = -32.5
y= 13

and x = 65 - 13 = 52

so we need 13 mls of the 14%,  and 52 mls of the 4% solution.

200 kg of brass is melted down and cast into ornamental frogs, each weight 3/20kg. How many frogs are made?
Savatey [412]

Answer:

1,333 frogs

Step-by-step explanation:

okay so we know that mass remains conserved no matter where you are.

same here ^^

if the total mass of brass is 200 kg

the total mass of the new frogs formed from it when put together will be the same :)

and if there were n such frogs formed

we have,

total mass = n × mass of each frog

200 = n × 3/ 20

n = 4000/ 3

so it becomes something like 1,333.33

that is nearly 1,333 frogs can be made out of 200 kg of brass each weighing 3/ 20kg (the last ones a bit less to make upto 200kg)

During the first hour of operation the farm stand owner sold 15% of the apples he had. On the second hour he sold 20% of the rem
Lelechka [254]

Answer:

200 kg

Step-by-step explanation:

First hour he sold 15% <em>(remaining is 85%)</em>

Second hour he sold 20% of remaining <em>(which is 85%)</em> -- so he sold (0.2)(0.85)=0.17, which is 17% (remaining 85-17=68%)

Third hour he sold 25% of remaining <em>(which is 68%)</em> -- so he sold (0.25)(0.68)=17, which is 17%

In third hour he sold 34, so 17% is 34. To find total he initially had, we need to find (100%). We can setup the ratio (letting x equal his initial amount):

\frac{0.17}{34}=\frac{1}{x}\\0.17x=34\\x=\frac{34}{0.17}=200

Initially the farm stand owner had 200 kg of apples.
