Major Gen. Ulysses Grant was able defeat Pemberton leader of the confederate defenders in a long and violent battle in Vicksburg . Vicksburg is an important town lying near the Mississippi river. Union through Grant led Tennesse Army gain the control over the Mississippi river.
Even if it was illegal to teach slaves how to read and write, there are some white Christians who educated them to enable the reading of the Bible. It was after world LL when the economy crashed. many recognize it as the stock market in NY crashing , but it's actually affects places all around the world .Main reasons for this great depression are. 1. the increasing debt to fund the war. 2. the higher demands on crops and and product and putting many farmers out of business. 3. The unbelievable lowered price on everything.
The Treaty of Paris signed on December 19, 1898 officially ended the war. This treaty also granted the United States control of places like Guam, the Philippine Islands, and Puerto Rico.
