The cultural change often causes lot of social conflicts. It can happen quickly or gradually. It can be because of mass movement of people, or because of change of perception. ... That has almost always led to big conflicts, and unfortunately lot of lives have been lost through such conflicts.

The reason that this was influential in the frontier's development is that when plans were being made, instead of slowly expanding outwards, the country exploded out living a middle frontier that was neither as developed as California or the East. </span>
