If 1/√a-√b=1/3 and 1/√a+√b=1/2, then find the difference of a and b.
kow [346]

<u>ANSWER:</u>

If \frac{1}{\sqrt{a}-\sqrt{b}}=\frac{1}{3} and \frac{1}{\sqrt{a}+\sqrt{b}}=\frac{1}{2} then the difference of a and b is 6

<u>SOLUTION:</u>

Given, \frac{1}{\sqrt{a}-\sqrt{b}}=\frac{1}{3} →\sqrt{a}-\sqrt{b}=3 ----- (1)

And \frac{1}{\sqrt{a}+\sqrt{b}}=\frac{1}{2} → \sqrt{a}+\sqrt{b}=2 --- (2)

We have to find difference of a and b.

Now, add (1) and (2)

\sqrt{a}-\sqrt{b}=3

\sqrt{a}+\sqrt{b}=2

Adding above two equations, we get,

2 \sqrt{a}+0=2+3

\begin{array}{l}{2 \sqrt{a}=5} \\\\ {\sqrt{a}=\frac{5}{2}} \\\\ {a=\frac{25}{4}}\end{array}

substitute \sqrt{a} value in (2)

\begin{array}{l}{\frac{5}{2}+\sqrt{b}=2} \\\\ {\sqrt{b}=\frac{2}{\sin \frac{5}{2}}} \\\\ {\sqrt{b}=\frac{4-5}{2}} \\\\ {\sqrt{b}=\frac{-1}{2}} \\\\ {b=\frac{1}{4}}\end{array}

Now, difference of a and b is a – b = \frac{25}{4}-\frac{1}{4}=\frac{24}{4}=6

Hence, the difference of a and b is 6.

Which of the following values are solutions to the inequality 1 + 5x &lt; 4?
Romashka-Z-Leto [24]

Step-by-step explanation:

you cant add 1 to 5x, so subtract 1 on both sides leaving you with 1 + 5x < 4 that equals 5x < 3 -1 -1

then divide 5 from both sides 5x < 3 This leaves 5 5

you with x < 3/5

A and B are two events.
Vesna [10]
In order to determine if the events are independent or not we need to find the conditional probabilities.

The conditional probability of event A, given event B is denoted as P(A|B)

P(A|B)= \frac{P(A*B)}{P(B)}

P(A*B) indicates P(A and B)

Using the values, we get:

P(A|B)= \frac{0.28}{0.8}=0.35

Since P(A|B) is not equal to P(A) this indicates that occurrence of event B has an impact on the occurrence of event A. This shows that the two events are dependent.

Therefore, the correct option is the second one.
2. A and B are not independent events because P(A∣∣B)≠P(A)

Westkost [7]

Answer:

\frac{1}{6}\\

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the probability, divide the number of desired outcomes by the total:

This will be 3/18, since there are 3 convertibles and there are 18 total cars

Simplify 3/18

= \frac{1}{6}
