A piece of string is 144 inches long. Isabel wants to cut it into 2 pieces so that one piece is five times as long as the other.
Alex Ar [27]

Answer:

  • 24 inches
  • 120 inches

Step-by-step explanation:

The lengths can be found by considering their ratio:

  short : long = 1 : 5

The sum of the ratio units is 1+5 = 6, and the sum of the lengths is 144 inches. That means each "ratio unit" stands for (144 in)/6 = 24 inches of length.

The lengths are ...

  1 : 5 = 24 in : 120 in

The pieces are 24 inches and 120 inches in length.

__

Equivalently, you can let s represent the shorter length. Then 5s is the longer one, and their total is ...

  s +5s = 144

  s = 144/6 = 24

  5s = 5(24) = 120

The lengths are 24 inches and 120 inches.

Two positive integers have a sum of 10 and a product of 21. What are the integers?
lara [203]

Answer:

<h2>3 and 7</h2>

Step-by-step explanation:

x,y-\text{positive integers}\\\\\text{The system of equations:}\\\\\left\{\begin{array}{ccc}x+y=10&\text{subtract}\ y\ \text{from both sides}\\xy=21\end{array}\right\\\\\left\{\begin{array}{ccc}x=10-y&(1)\\xy=21&(2)\end{array}\right\\\\\text{substitute (1) to (2):}\\\\(10-y)(y)=21\qquad\text{use the distributive property}\ a(b-c)=ab-ac\\\\10y-y^2=21\qquad\text{subtract 21 from both sides}\\\\-y^2+10y-21=0\qquad\text{change the signs}\\\\y^2-10y+21=0\\\\y^2-3y-7y+21=0\\\\y(y-3)-7(y-3)=0

(y-3)(y-7)=0\iff y-3=0\ \vee\ y-7=0\\\\y-3=0\qquad\text{add 3 to both sides}\\\\y=3\\\\y-7=0\qquad\text{add 7 to both sides}\\\\y=7\\\\\text{Put the value of}\ y\ \text{to (1):}\\\\x=10-3=7\ or\ x=10-7=3

Yesterday a chef used 36 eggs to make 8 chocolate souffles and 3 lemon meringue pie. The day before, he made 2 chocolate souffle
Masteriza [31]

Answer: Well first one chocolate souffles uses 3 eggs and each lemon maringue uses 4

Step-by-step explanation: First what i did was look at the question and it shows that there is two sets, so you have to plug in some random numbers and i started at o and if you do 8*1 you would have 1 egg per each souffles and you would have 28 eggs left and that won't work because 28/3 gives some long and then i tried 2... and 8*2 is 16 so you would have 20 eggs left and of course another long answer. But if you try three, 8*3 it gives you 24 so 36-24 and you get 12 and 3*4 is 12.. so then i plugged the same numbers in for the second part.. 3*2=6 and 4*2=8 and 6+8=14

if you need better more im here to help... have a good dayy!! (✿◡‿◡)
