Depending on the historian or theorist making this statement, there may be a difference. Yve-Alain Bois is the source I prefer to use for this. An item is dissected (analyzed) from multiple perspectives and then rendered in analytical cubism. In synthetic cubism, the objects being painted are either constructed, or they are placed in a secondary state. The distinction is based on synthetic cubism's increased usage of collage.
