The United States was concerned by Castro's anti-American rhetoric, his "radical" policies, and his association with a number of suspected leftists. So, due to Castro's "foreign ideology" (in the perspective of Americans), the United States was prompted to keep a wary eye on his administration.

Since the Soviet Union shared similar interests to promote and expand communism, they formed an alliance.
