Explanation: Just to elaborate a little on the answer, it can be added that by describing his own house as an "eyesore" and by saying, in a conformist, but also in a sarcastic, tone, that he had "a partial view of my neighbors lawn, and the consoling proximity of millionaires — all for eighty dollars a month," the narrator is in this excerpt employing a self-critical sense of humor that makes him credible and approachable.

After living on the island on his own for many years, Crusoe found a tribe of cannibals on the island. They were just about to eat one person when Crusoe saved him from certain death. That man was Friday, and given that this event happened on a Friday, Crusoe decided to name him that.
