The radio broadcast was adapted from the novel by H.G. Wells. The Mercury Theater on the Air was the radio program directed and narrated by Orson Welles. It was broadcasted on October 30, 1938. It caused panic among the people. Both in the novel and in the broadcast, the theme that is developed is that humans assume that they are the only intelligent creatures in the universe and this novel proves it wrong.
