Solve the equation for x, where x is a real number (5 points):
2x^2 + 7x - 9 = -3
Tanya [424]
Add 3 to both sides so that the equation becomes 2x^2 + 7x - 6 = 0.
To find the solutions to this equation, we can apply the quadratic formula. This quadratic formula solves equations of the form ax^2 + bx + c = 0
                              x = [ -b ± √(b^2 - 4ac) ] / (2a)
                              x = [ -7 ± √(7^2 - 4(2)(-6)) ] / ( 2(2) )
                              x = [ -7 ± √(49 - (-48) ) ] / ( 4 )
                              x = [ -7 ± √(97) ] / ( 4)
                              x = [ -7 ± sqrt(97) ] / ( 4 )
                              x = -7/4 ± sqrt(97)/4
The answers are -7/4 + sqrt(97)/4 and -7/4 - sqrt(97)/4.

In a survey of 120 8th graders, 84 liked math, 73 liked science and 23 liked math but not science. how many students disliked bo
hammer [34]
24
We can divide the 8th graders into 4 groups. They are:
1. Like both math and science.
2. Like only math.
3. Like only science.
4. Don't like either math or science.
The sum of the people in all 4 groups will add up to 120. So let's see how many are in each group.
We've been given 23 as the number of people who like only math (group 2).
And since we know that 84 people like math, that means that 84 - 23 = 61 people are in group 1. And since we know that 73 people like science, that means that 73 - 61 = 12 are in group 3. So of the 4 groups, we now know.
1. Like both math and science (61 people).
2. Like only math (23 people).
3. Like only science (12 people).
4. Don't like either math or science (unknown).

So for the people left in group 4 (don't like either subject) that will be 120 - 61 - 23 - 12 = 24.

Evaluate the following expressions, and justify your answers.
WhatPower5(1)
Zepler [3.9K]

Answer:

correct answer is 0

Step-by-step explanation:

given data  as per question

WhatPower5(1)

to find out

Evaluate the expressions WhatPower5(1)

solution

so here we know that whatpower mean exponent of equation so we get by given equation

so

we know whatpower5(1)  = 0

because  here

we know that anything exponent 0 is equal to 0

so here we can say that

that is 5^{0} =  1

so that the exponent is here 0 of 5 that become 1

so correct answer is 0

If f(x) = 3x^2 - x, find f(-2).
saw5 [17]

Answer:

14

Step-by-step explanation:

to find f(value), we plug that x value into the equation

so, if..

f(x)= 3x² -x

f(-2)= 3 · (-2)² - (-2)

f (-2) = 3 · 4 + 2

f (-2) = 12 + 2

f (-2)  = 14
