There are three (3) main types of empathy and these includes;

I. Basic (interchangeable empathy).

II. Additive empathy.

III. Subtractive empathy.

Hence, empathy is a trait healthcare providers display when they value patients’ feelings and take the time to listen to and understand patients. This trait is essential and should be possessed by all healthcare workers to enable them provide an unwavering, satisfactory and excellent healthcare services to patients at all times.
