first i cut the shape into two small rectangles and one big rectangle the width of the two rectangles would be two because if you look across from the 8cm is says 4cm so take 4 cm subtracted from 8cm to get 4cm divide that by 2 because there are two rectangles to get 2cm. So to find the are for the rectangles I did 2cm times 12cm to get 24 cm. I multiplied that by 2 because there are two rectangles and got 48cm and set that number off to the side. For the big rectangle in the middle I did 4 cm multiplied by 8 cm because 4 cm is already provided but in order to get 8 cm i have to subtract 4 cm from 12 cm to get 8 cm. So I did 4 cm multiplied by 8 cm to get 32 cm. Then i added the total area of the small rectangles and the big rectangle and got 80 cm
