Answer: 3x + 15 = 51

x is the number of laps that she swims on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Since she swims the same amount, we can multiply x by three. Since Saturday  gives us an explicit answer, we can just add that to the equation.

Hope this helps :)

lianna [129]

Answer:

70 members in 2016

Step-by-step explanation:

In 2016

Let the number of members= x

They all paid y amount

Total fees= 42

Xy= 42...... equation 1

In 2017

Members= x+20

They paid y-0.1

Total fees = 45

(X+20)(y-0.1)= 45…equation 2

Xy -0.1x +20y -2= 45

Using values from equation 1

42-0.1(42/y) +20y -2= 45

-4.2/y+20y-5= 0

20y² -4.2 -5y = 0

100y² -25y -21= 0

Solving quadratically

Y= 0.6 or -0.35

We are dealing with price so y Is

definitely a positive number

Y= 0.6

If y= 0.6

Solving for x

Xy= 42

X= 42/0.6

X=70

There were exactly 70 members in 2016

Find the x-intercept of a porabola with a vertex of (-3,-14) and y-intercept (0,-13)
mina [271]

Answer:

see explanation

Step-by-step explanation:

The equation of a parabola in vertex form is

y = a(x - h)² + k

where (h, k) are the coordinates of the vertex and a is a multiplier

here (h, k) = (- 3, - 14), thus

y = a(x + 3)² - 14

To find a substitute (0, - 13) into the equation

- 13 = 9a - 14 ( add 14 to both sides )

9a = 1 ( divide both sides by 9 )

a = \frac{1}{9}, hence

y = \frac{1}{9}(x + 3)² - 14 ← equation of parabola

To find the x- intercepts let y = 0

\frac{1}{9}(x + 3)² - 14 = 0

Multiply through by 9

(x + 3)² - 126 = 0 ( add 126 to both sides )

(x + 3)² = 126 ( take the square root of both sides )

x + 3 = ± \sqrt{126} = ± 3\sqrt{14}

Subtract 3 from both sides

x = - 3 ± 3\sqrt{14}

The x- intercepts are therefore

x = - 3 - 3\sqrt{14} ≈ - 14.22 ( to 2 dec. places ) or

x = - 3 + 3\sqrt{14} ≈ 8.22 ( to 2 dec. places )

The sum of a number and its reciprocal is 13/6. find the number
Anna71 [15]
x + \frac{1}{x} = \frac{13}{6} \text{, x} \neq 0
x^{2} - \frac{13}{6}x + 1 = 0
6x^{2} - 13x + 6 = 0
6x^{2} -9x - 4x + 6 = 0
3x(2x - 3) - 2(2x - 3) = 0
(3x - 2)(2x - 3) = 0

So, the numbers are: 3/2 and 2/3
