What is the man of "towering genius?" According to Lincoln, what motivates him? Why is he a threat to the perpetuation of the co
Alexxx [7]

The phrase "Towering Genius" is used in reference to Abraham Lincoln speech to refer to a person who "disdains a beaten path. One seeks regions hitherto unexplored. One who sees no distinction in adding story to story upon the monuments of fame erected to the memory of others. One who denies that it is glory enough to serve under any chief."

Why is The Towering Genius a threat to the perpetuation of the constitutional order?

According to Abraham Lincoln, the Towering Genius is a threat to the perpetuation of constitutional order because he or she seeks fame outside of the constitutional order established by

 • Washington,
 • Madison,
 • Jefferson, and
 • the rest of the founders, but seeks to supplant the founders' political order and establish new modes and orders of their own — to be the new Washington, the new FDR, or the new Reagan.

According to Lincoln, "Nothing fits their goals more than the populist rise of a dissatisfied public, whose frustrations and aspirations they gladly harness in service of their own interests.

Abraham Lincoln warned his audience to beware of the man thirsty for political power. In fact, he might have been speaking subconsciously about himself when he said, “A towering genius despises a beaten path."

What aspects of Confucianism and Daoism do you think contributed to their long lasting influence?
Kipish [7]

Confucianism and Daoism are considered philosophical world views and ways of life. Each has its own set of characteristics that make of them a long-lasting influence to adopt for a lifetime.

Daoism is focused on understanding nature and embracing it as it is - regarding the nature of humans and that of the environment that surrounds them. This broad approach of understanding life allowed Daoism to become a religion with and organized doctrine and cult practices.

In the case of Confucianism, its focus on improving human behavior with the means of achieving harmony served not only as an ideology to adopt as a personal way of life, but as a ruling (discipline) model for an entire society.
