Suppose it takes 18 hours for a pipe to fill a tank of water, if the tank
Lemur [1.5K]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the volume of tank be x

In 18 hours volume of tank filled = x

we have to find the volume of tank which is filled in 1 hours.

For that we divide LHS and RHS by 18

In 18/18 hours volume of tank filled = x/18

In 1 hours volume of tank filled = x/18

In 30 hours volume of tank emptied = x

we have to find the volume of tank which is emptied in 1 hours.

For that we divide LHS and RHS by 30

in 30/30 hours volume of tank filled = x/30

In 1 hours volume of tank filled = x/30

If tank is empty and one starts to fill it, two things will happen

it will start filling at rate of x/18 hours

But there is leak which will start to empty the tank at  x/30 hours

So , at any given time rate if filling of water will be rate of filling the tank- rate of emptying the tank

In 1 hour volume of tank filled if both filling and leaking takes place simultaneously =  x/18 -x/30 = (30-18)x/18*30 = 12x/18*30 = x/3*15 = x/45

In 1 hour volume of tank filled = x/45

in 1*45 hour volume of tank filled = x/45*45 = x

Thus, it will take 45 hours to fill the leaky tank  .

Find the area of a regular nonagon with a side length of 7 and an apothem of 5
vitfil [10]
A NONA=9, nonagon has 9 sides, so it's perimeter is 7+7+7+7+7+7+7+7+7, or 63, and we know the apothem.

bearing in mind that the area of a regular polygon is
(1/2)ap   a = apothem, p = perimeter

so in this case that'd be (1/2)(5)(63).

At a local company, the ages of all new employees hired during the last 10 years are normally distributed. The mean age is 35 ye
MAVERICK [17]

Answer:

P =26%

Step-by-step explanation:

In this problem we have the ages of all new employees hired during the last 10 years of normally distributed.

We know that the mean is \mu = 35 years and standard deviation is \sigma = 10 years

By definition we know that if we take a sample of size n of a population with normal distribution, then the sample will also have a normal distribution with a mean

\mu_m = \mu

And with standard deviation

\sigma_m = \frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}}

Then the average of the sample will be

\mu_m = 35\ years

And the standard deviation of the sample will be

\sigma_m =\frac{10}{\sqrt{10}} = 3.1622

Now we look for the probability that the mean of the sample is greater than or equal to 37.

This is

P({\displaystyle{\overline {x}}}\geq 37)

To find this probability we find the Z-score

Z = \frac{{\displaystyle{\overline{x}}} -\mu}{\frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}}}

Z = \frac{37 -35}{\frac{10}{\sqrt{10}}} = 0.63

So

P({\displaystyle{\overline {x}}}\geq 37) = P(\frac{{\displaystyle{\overline {x}}}-\mu}{\frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}}}\geq\frac{37-35}{\frac{10}{\sqrt{10}}}) = P(Z\geq0.63)

We know that

P(Z\geq0.63)=1-P(Z

Looking in the normal table we have:

P(Z\geq0.63)=1-0.736\\\\P(Z\geq0.63) = 0.264

Finally P = 26%
