Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

The easiest way to do this is to complete the square on the quadratic. This allows us to see what the vertex is and answer the question without having to plug in a ton of numbers to see what the max y value is. Completing the square will naturally put the equation into vertex form:

y=-a(x-h)^2+k where h will be the time it takes to get to a height of k.

Begin by setting the quadratic equal to 0 and then moving over the constant, like this:

-4.9t^2+19.6t=-58.8 and the rule is that the leading coefficient has to be a 1. Ours is a -4.9 so we have to factor it out:

-4.9(t^2-4t)=-58.8 Now take half the linear term, square it, and add it to both sides. Our linear term is a -4, from -4t. Half of -4 is -2, and -2 squared is 4, so we add a 4 to both sides. BUT on the left we have that -4.9 out front there as a multiplier, so we ACTUALLY added on to the left was -4.9(4) which is -19.6:

-4.9(t^2-4t+4)=-58.8-19.6 and now we have to clean this up. The right side is easy, that is -78.4. The left side...not so much.

The reason we complete the square is to create a perfect square binomial, which is the (x-h)^2 part from above. Completing the square does this naturally, now it's just up to us to write the binomial created during the process:

-4.9(t-2)^2=-78.4 Now, move the constant back over and set the equation back equal to y:

-4.9(t-2)^2+78.4=s(t) and we see that the vertex is (2, 78.4). That means that 2 seconds after launch, the object reached its max height of 78.4 meters, the third choice down.

A regular hexagon has a perimeter of 60 in. What is the hexagon's area?
Jet001 [13]
Divide the perimeter by 5 since it is regular. 60/5 = 12. Split the hexagon into a triangle and a rectangle. Find the area of each and add them together. Area of the rectangle is 12*12 = 144. To find the area of the triangle, you need to find an angle measure= y, hypotenuse = c, and a leg = a or b. An easy way to find an angle measure is to cut down the altitude and find the angle next to the base and altitude which would be 90° due to the fact that the triangle is regular also. With the regular triangle split in half, you have two right angle which form both 90-45-45 triangles. Use this formula, A=ac \frac{siny}{2} --- A=12*12 \frac{sin45}{2} to find the area of the triangle which equals to 50.91. Add (((144+50.91 = 194.91))) I hope I got this right if not, i'm sorry lol.

Find the base of a parallelogram with a slant height of 7cm and an perimeter of 63 cm2
vlada-n [284]

Base of parallelogram b = 24.5 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given:

Perimeter =P= 63 cm^2

Slant Height =a= 7 cm

Base of Parallelogram =b= ?

The formula used is:

Perimeter = 2(a+b)

where a is height and b is base

Putting values:

Perimeter = 2(a+b)\\63=2(7+b)\\63=14+2b\\2b=63-14\\2b=49\\b=\frac{49}{2}\\b=24.5

So, Base of parallelogram b = 24.5 cm
