If the length, breadth and height of the box is denoted by a, b and h respectively, then V=a×b×h =32, and so h=32/ab. Now we have to maximize the surface area (lateral and the bottom) A = (2ah+2bh)+ab =2h(a+b)+ab = [64(a+b)/ab]+ab =64[(1/b)+(1/a)]+ab.

We treat A as a function of the variables and b and equating its partial derivatives with respect to a and b to 0. This gives {-64/(a^2)}+b=0, which means b=64/a^2. Since A(a,b) is symmetric in a and b, partial differentiation with respect to b gives a=64/b^2, ==>a=64[(a^2)/64}^2 =(a^4)/64. From this we get a=0 or a^3=64, which has the only real solution a=4. From the above relations or by symmetry, we get b=0 or b=4. For a=0 or b=0, the value of V is 0 and so are inadmissible. For a=4=b, we get h=32/ab =32/16 = 2.

Therefore the box has length and breadth as 4 ft each and a height of 2 ft.

Rearrange the product

(5.91 * 10^(-3)) * (8.7 * 10^10)

as

(5.91 * 8.7) * (10^(-3) * 10^10)

We have 5.91 * 8.7 = 51.417, and 10^(-3) * 10^10 = 10^(10 - 3) = 10^7, so the original product above reduces to

51.417 * 10^7

We can "add" powers of 10 by moving the decimal place to the left:

51.417 = 5.1417 * 10

so that

51.417 * 10^7 = (5.1417 * 10) * 10^7 = 5.1417 * 10^8

What is the relationship between the ratios? 48/72 and 6/9 Drag and drop to complete the statement. The ratios are . proportiona
IrinaVladis [17]

Answer:

The Ratios are Proportional

Step-by-step explanation:

Let,

R1 = 48 / 72 ----- (1)

R2 = 6/9 ------ (2)

If we divide right hand side of above equation by 8, we get,

R1 = (48/8) / (72/8)\\R1 = 6/9

Therefore, it means that, in simplified form, both ratios are same and hence proportional.

R1 : R2 = 6/9 : 6/9

Create an exponential to describe $100 at 2% interest, compounded annually, for x years. y=100(.98)^x y=100(.8)^x y=100(1.2)^x y
zysi [14]

The exponential to describe $100 at 2% interest, compounded annually, for x years is y=100(1.02)^{x}

<h3><u>Solution:</u></h3>

Given that $ 100 at 2 % interest , compounded annually for "x" years

<em><u>The formula for compound interest, including principal sum, is:</u></em>

A=P\left(1+\frac{r}{n}\right)^{n t}

A = the future value of the investment/loan, including interest

P = the principal investment amount (the initial deposit or loan amount)

r = the annual interest rate (decimal)

n = the number of times that interest is compounded per unit t

t = the time the money is invested or borrowed for

Here in this sum,

P = $ 100

r = 2 \% = \frac{2}{100} = 0.02

number of years = x

Here given that compounded annually , so n = 1

Let "y" be the amount after "x" years

Substituting the values in formula we get,

\begin{aligned}&y=100\left(1+\frac{0.02}{1}\right)^{1 \times x}\\\\&y=100(1+0.02)^{x}\\\\&y=100(1.02)^{x}\end{aligned}

Thus the exponential to describe is y=100(1.02)^{x}

Henry incorrectly said the rate 1/5 pound/1/10 gallon can be written as the unit rate 1/50 pound per gallon . What is the correc
kozerog [31]

Answer:

What is the correct unit rate?

The correct unit rate = 2 pound per gallon

What was Henry's likely error?

Henry's likely error was that instead of dividing the fractions he multiplied them

Step-by-step explanation:

Henry incorrectly said the rate 1/5 pound/1/10 gallon can be written as the unit rate 1/50 pound per gallon .

What is the correct unit rate?

The correct unit rate

= 1/5 / 1/10

= 1/5 ÷ 1/10

= 1/5 × 10/1

= 2 pound per gallon

What was Henry's likely error?

Henry's likely error was that instead of dividing the fractions he multiplied them

1/5 / 1/10

Henry calculated it : = 1/5 x 1/10 = 1/50

This is wrong.

The correct step is given below

1/5 / 1/10

= 1/5 ÷ 1/10

= 1/5 × 10/1

= 2 pound per gallon
