The answer or basic answer is… Shah Sultan Hossein, who ruled from 1694 to 1792, was the main cause of the end of the Safavid Empire. He appointed a member of Shia'a religious establishment, Mohammad Majlesi, to office. Majlesi and the Shia'a clergy slowly but surely took control of the empire and overthrew the regime.
