Answer:

The main factor that put a limit to the development of absolutist governments worldwide was, without a doubt, the Enlightenment.

During the Enlightenment, which took place during the 1700s, certain ideological currents began to develop that gave rise to what is now known as liberalism, understanding life and freedom as the natural rights that every man possesses by their simple condition as such, and considering that equality between human beings could not be circumvented under any terms. In addition, societies ran from theocentrism, leaving aside religion as the main moral factor of social organization, to move to a system in which man took on greater importance.

Thus, the fact that absolutism based its power generally on the authority of God, and that equality stood as the main right on which other human rights considered natural were based, led to criticism of the absolute power of the rulers, going on to develop the modern concept of democracy that we know today.
