Social media has become a dominant aspect in the social lives of young people. This has both positive, and negative effects on them.

NEGATIVE: Teenagers don't know how they are yet, and can be poorly impacted by who the world thinks they should be. They are flashed with unrealistic depictions of wealth and beauty, and believe that to be the norm. They spend hours and hours scrolling through their their feed, and waiting at the edge of their seats for notifications. Social media can be harmful to teenagers mental health.

POSTIVE: This newfound ''media" outlet also carries new, positve benefits. People turn to insta to give a voicce to the injustices they face. New civil rights movements, raising money for those in need, public service announcments and people demanding a call to action are just a few examples of social media being beneficial. This can instill in young people the desire to make a change, even if it is something as small as sharing a tweet about the Black Lives Matter movement, or voicing their support for the LGBTQ+ community.
