He will survive because he has a few helpful survival skills beforehand. He also shows throughout the book that he will not giveup and is willing to accommodate to his living circumstances in order to survive. Also he very quickly learns survival skills to survive so we know he is smart and quick with learning skills in order to survive his situation.
