In 1879, when the railroad reached New Mexico, people stopped using the Santa Fe Trail. The Santa Fe Trail had been established in 1821 by traders, with the goal of connecting Missouri to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and transporting goods (fur, primarily) and people (settlers). It eventually transported other goods, such as mail, as well as other people, such as soldiers and emigrants. This highway, the first in American history, was, however, demised by the arrival of the Santa Fe Railway Company train, which provided a much faster and potent service, and which would become one of the largest in the country. Whereas the Santa Fe Trail covered a distance of 900 miles, the Santa Fe Railway covered a distance of about 11,000 miles.

What is urban Italian?

Rome, Milan, and Naples are Italy's major urban areas, located in the country's center, north, and south, respectively. Rome had a population of about 4.3 million people in 2021, followed by Milan with 3.1 million and Naples with 2.2 million.

The Metropolitan City of Milan is made up of 134 municipalities that form a densely populated area with extensive infrastructure; it can be configured as a single urban area of 1,575 square kilometers.

With 5.27 million inhabitants, its continuously built-up urban area (whose outer suburbs extend well beyond the administrative metropolitan city's boundaries and even into the neighboring country of Switzerland) is the fourth largest in the EU.
