Europe is located in the mostly in the Eastern Hemisphere and Northern Hemisphere in relation to the United States. It is surrounded by the the Mediterranean Sea to the south, Arctic Ocean to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, and Asia to the east.

The geography of New York state made it easy to form Erie Canal, which is a waterway for the transportation of trade goods between the Midwest region of the United States to New York City.
