After reading the essay, what have you learned about Hispanic heritage? How do you think Alvarez’s heritage affected her? Write
RSB [31]

Answer and Explanation:

After reading the essay "Names nombres" written by J. Alvarez, we can learn how difficult it is for a family of Spanish origin to maintain their names and traditions within a totally different culture like that of the USA, especially when that family comes from a country considered to be "third world", seen as inferior and often shameful and devalued. This affected the way Alvarez saw her own identity, associated with her and her family names. These names were pronounced so differently by the Americans, it seemed that they were erasing the Latin origin of it and imposing an Americanized and more "normal" version.

In this essay, Alvarez approaches her youth as a Latin immigrant in the USA. It shows how difficult it is to live between two cultures and how it affects various elements in people's lives.

Which detail from to build a fire helps develop a theme about dependence versus independence?
Alekssandra [29.7K]

Answer:

The detail from to build a fire that helps develop a theme about dependence versus independence is "The man ignored the advice of one of the Yukon old-timers. "

Explanation:

This question is not complete, here are the options to answer the question:

A. The man warms his hands inside the dog's body.

B. The man builds a fire underneath a tree that is heavy with snow.

C. The man ignored the advice of one of the Yukon old-timers.

D. The man walks around the frozen creek

The theme of dependence versus independence is shown in this moment since the man does not want to accept that he depends on the help of others and goes on his journey as a demonstration of independence from other, which at the end led him to his death, making a big difference between the two war he could have taken.

the author does not include the year in which the story takes place or the name of the village. Why are these details of setting
bezimeni [28]

maybe the author just want to keep that info secret and the story maybe not true at all so author doesn't want to tell readers, that what I think!
