I think it’s perfectly fair, if you mean doing chores and helping out people. It teaches them to not be lazy and it teaches responsibility.
but if it’s like working a job I think it all depends on the person how mature they are or if they will listen to the people in charge. But they should not be forced to work.

I believe that the thrush's song changed the mood. It was a song filled with hope which inspired Hardy to gain hope. The Darking thrust was a bird who was described as weak, very fragile and whose feathers that were blown around by a strong wind. Even though he was described as this weak and fragile thing he still sacrificed himself. Hope this helps
