How does Hamilton support and advance his purpose by using the words sword and purse in this excerpt from Paragraph 1? The Execu
Alexus [3.1K]

<span>"Using these words lets Hamilton associate the executive and legislative branches with war and taxes, both of which will be viewed negatively by readers, so that his argument in favor of a strong judicial branch will be viewed positively."</span>

Hamilton wanted people to support his plan, so he wanted to make sure that regular people had positive feelings about the words he was using. Everyone had just been through a war, so no one really wanted to hear that word. He uses the word "sword" instead, which is more general and a lot of people owned swords. Instead of using the word "taxes" (again, people really hated the idea of taxes), he uses the word "purse" which again, is something everyone had and had a positive feeling about. Choosing 'sword' and 'purse' was much better than 'war' and 'taxes', so more people supported Hamilton's plan.

WHICH PRESENTS THE BEST REBUTTAL TO THE COUNTERCLAIM "BULLYING IS NOT THAT IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT DOES NOT AFFECT ME PERSONALLY
Vesnalui [34]

This question is missing the answer choices. I was able to find them online. They are the following:

A. The best way to prevent bullying is to keep students off of social media outside of school hours.

B. Schools should have a strong support system in place to help some students cope with the emotional pressures they experience from parents, teachers, and peers.

C. Existing feelings of low self-esteem can make a student more vulnerable to bullying.

D. A number of studies has shown that all students have moments of self-doubt and insecurity, but some students may have a more difficult time managing those feelings.

Answer:

The best rebuttal to the counterclaim is:

D. A number of studies has shown that all students have moments of self-doubt and insecurity, but some students may have a more difficult time managing those feelings.

Explanation:

A counterclaim is an idea that opposes the claim of an essay or a speech, for example. In this case, the counterclaim is "Bullying is not that important because it does not affect me personally." <u>A rebuttal is an answer to a counterclaim, opposing it. In this instance, the best one is letter D. No one is absolutely immune to bullying and its effects. As studies show, everyone eventually feels insecure and, in some cases, such feeling is harder to manage. Therefore, bullying is important, since it has the power to affect everyone.</u>

Which statement best summarizes the character of Miss Scatcherd In Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë?
alexandr402 [8]
In Jane Eyre, a teacher of history and grammar, Miss Scatcherd, whips Jane's best friend, Helen Burns. She also sentences Helen "to a dinner of bread and water . . . because she had blotted an exercise in copying it out." When Jane advises Helen to resist Miss Scatcherd's treatment, Helen tells her that "it is far better to endure patiently a smart which nobody feels but yourself, than to commit a hasty action whose evil consequences will extend to all connected with you; and besides, the Bible bids us return good for evil." Sometime later, Helen dies of consumption.
