My classmates and i traveled from the east coast of Yorkshire to the small island of Haiti to see the culture and life during a period of exploration and domination. We were astonished to see the way European colonizers maintained control in a foreign land and children bred by those captured and those capturing right alongside them playing roles that if butlers and nannies to there sibling not born out of wedlock. during the exploration we saw very gruesome beatings dealt by master to those whom inhabited the land prior to the captures. this seemed to be a land of great sorrow and desperation dealt by those who do not belong.

I hope this helps!

Why did Thomas Jefferson believe in 1785 that African Americans should be colonized elsewhere?
Vinvika [58]

Answer:

Explanation:

In 1779, as a practical solution, Jefferson supported gradual emancipation, training, and colonization of African-American slaves rather than immediate manumission, believing that releasing unprepared persons with no place to go and no means to support themselves would only bring them misfortune. In 1784, Jefferson proposed a federal law banning slavery in the New Territories of the North and South after 1800, which failed to pass Congress by one vote.In his Notes on the State of Virginia, published in 1785, Jefferson expressed a belief that slavery corrupted both masters and slaves alike, and that gradual colonization would be preferable to immediate manumission.  In 1794 and 1796, Jefferson freed two male slaves; they had been trained and were qualified to hold employment. Most historians believe that after the death of his wife Martha, Jefferson had a long-term relationship with her half-sister, Sally Hemings, a slave at Monticello. jefferson allowed two of Sally Hemings's surviving four children to "escape"; the other two he freed through his will. In 1824, Jefferson proposed a national plan to end slavery by the federal government purchasing African-American slave children for $12.50, raising and training them in occupations of freemen, and sending them to the country of Santo Domingo. In his will, Jefferson also freed three other men.In 1827, the remaining 130 slaves were sold to pay the debts of Jefferson's estate

Which of the following BEST reflects the goal of the book How the Other Half Lives?
Sergio [31]
The author Jacob Riis wrote "How the Other Half Lives" to portray the living conditions of New York City's housing for the poor in the late 19th century. He wrote it to show the richer people of society, including both upper and middle classes, how squalid and rough it was to live in these slums. Jacob Riis's work served as inspiration for housing reforms and continues to do so even today.

Explain one way in which the kalinagos resembled the tainos
cricket20 [7]

Answer:

(A) Taino, Arawakan-speaking people who at the time of Christopher Columbus's exploration inhabited what are now Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic), Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

(B) Jamaica became the perfect spot for them to settle due to the consistent climate, as well as the abundance of food from the ocean, and the crops that they were able to produce. The Tainos people live off of the sea food but also what the island had to offer them, such as a mix varieties of fruits, and vegetables.

(C) The kalinagos (Caribs) survived mainly by fishing, hunting, and farming. They were skilled craft people and made canoes (hew from huge trees and dug out) which were used to travel to and from the neighboring islands. The Caribs also weaved baskets and were famous for their herbal medicine.

(D) The Taino were easily conquered by the Spaniards beginning in 1493. Enslavement, starvation, and disease reduced them to a few thousand by 1520 and to near extinction by 1550. Those who survived mixed with Spaniards, Africans, and others.
