Primero que nada, hay que tener bien claro qué es la aculturación. Este término se emplea para definir el proceso en el que una cultura trata de imponer sus costumbres, condicionas y manera de pensar sobre otra cultura, al grado de buscar la forma de desaparecerla.

El el caso concreto de Costa Rica -país centroamericano- el proceso de aculturación impuesto a los pueblos autóctonos .sobre todo en el papel de la religión en los procesos educativos en la educación, ha sido un proceso "forzado" de evangelización impuesta en el que se buscó que los indígenas perdieran su esencia, historia, costumbres y tradiciones, en pro a una supuesta "modernización" en base a la doctrina católica.

Grupos elitistas y de gobierno, desearon imponer sus valores, costumbres e ideas a las tribus indígenas en aras de una supuesta "modernidad." Pero en realidad, lo único que lograron fue "arrebatarles" su esencia a los grúpos étnicos del país, que representan una herencia histórica invaluable.
