1) Mother was so sick because of her incredible addiction to caffeine. She suffered because her own supplies had run out and she was completely exhausted as she could not satisfy her need.She also has an awful headache, that was a result of her problem.

2) In order to solve her problem she asks Jethro to come over to help her by borrobing coffee from Nance. After a while, Ellen feels good after one cup of coffee and sends Jethro to buy goods from the general store in town. He was actually glad to be helpful as he wanted to kill time due to his loneliness in the time of war.

3) In general store he comes across the father of Travis Burdow with which he has an argument about Bill. Their attitudes towards him were completely different and as the conversation get stardet the man become very angry and yelled on<span> Jethro accusing him in covering for Bill as he considers him a betrayer.

4) The </span>fine treat  which Jethro experienced was a special dinner prepared only for him - an appetite apple pie. After hearing this argument, Ross Milton, an editor, approaches Jethro and asking him to get acquainted. And as a gratitude of his approval he gives him a pie.

5) When Jethro got to the burdow's place Burrow saved his life from theives. After a conversation with the editor of the local paper, he was given a caution to be careful as this man who was argued with him was living on the way of Jethro's home. On the way he meets <span>Mr. Burdow who asks him on a ride in order to be sure that he will be safe. 
 
6) Mr. Burdow suspected that </span><span>man from the restaurant would be waiting for Jethro and wanted to help him before something might help. They eventually see the company headed with that man and Burdow calms they down. In the end of the chapter, Bordow takes a boy home assuring him he is finally safe.</span>
