Anticline is known to be a type of fold that is formed by the process of rock strata folding which forms an arch-like shape. Initially, the rock layers where horizontally laid but the process of earth movement made it to fold into an arch-like shape called an anticline. To recognize anticlines, one will discover that they are differentiated from antiforms by rock layers that are in layers which become older progressively toward the center of the form.  

Anticline is the opposite of a syncline. Anticlines and synclines are known to be the up and down folds that occur together. These usually caused by compressional stress.
