Explanation:

Workers were often working in gross, crammed conditions. They made little pay, but it was for the benefit of the workforce.

The owners were delighted with such a high increase in the working population. This increased their margins, which is why I suggest profit. Other than that, I do not know about quality control. I would assume they wanted good products, but the best answer<em> (in my opinion)</em> is profit.

In fact, they had to ask for more money just to keep the colony running and by the mid to late 1620s, they were deeply in debt to the investors.

<u>To help pay down the debt they still owed</u>, the colonists established a beaver fur trading base in Kennebec, Maine by 1625.
