Complete question

Mrs. Helms was very upset with the news of her husband. condition. As the day progressed, she noticed that Mr. Helm's breathing was increasingly difficult. He could barely speak without losing his breath. Mrs. Helms called the nurse to her husband's, room. "My husband can't breathe! What is wrong? I thought he had a heart attack not a respiratory condition!" Nurse Nan auscultator the patient's chest listening to Mr. Helm's respirations, which were rapid and wet, producing or crackling sounds. Nurse Nan calmly informed Mrs. Helms, "I'm sorry. Your husband's condition is worsening. The damage to his heart it causing his respiratory problems." The left side of the heart receives blood from which part of the body? If the bicuspid (mitral) valve is not fully dosing, does pulmonary circulation increase, decrease, or not change? Does pulmonary blood pressure increase or decrease with left-sided heart failure? Does this change in pulmonary blood pressure increase or decrease capillary filtration in the lungs? Explain. How does change in pulmonary blood pressure and capillary filtration cause Mr. Helms' rales (wet breath sounds)? Why is Mr. Helms breathing rapidly?

Solution -

The condition of Mr. Helm signifies that the pulmonary pressure increases in the pulmonary arteries. This condition is known as pulmonary hypertension which commonly occurs when the left side of the heart stops functioning or it fails. The blood not pumped by the left heart is pumped back into the lungs thereby increasing the blood pressure. The heart do not get time to relax in this conditions due to continuous pumping back and fro.

How does the environment affect the organism, and vice versa? What effects, good as well as bad, have humans had on the environm
Rudik [331]

1. The environment is detrimental for the survival of the organisms. It is what provides the organisms with all of the living conditions, thus we can say that it is the ''stage'' to which the organisms have to adapt in order to survive in it. The organisms though also have effect on the environment. The organisms are able to contribute to numerous natural cycles, they give the material for the formation of soil, affect the composition of the atmosphere, and all of that has huge impact on how the environment looks and what it can provide.

2. The humans have had huge impact on the environment, both bad and positive. Unfortunately, the bad effects are the dominant ones, and they include pollution of all spheres, destroying the environment in order to free space for their own needs, changing the environment in accordance to their interest without taking in consideration the long term done. From the positive side, the humans have managed to transform multiple arid and semi-arid regions and make them green, bring water in places where it has been lacking, stop the major wildfires.

Can someone please explain why the answer is D? Thank you!
Pepsi [2]

Enzyme deactivation which is called denaturization is when an enzyme's physical structure is changed due to either high pH, or temperature. If enzymes convert the sugar to starch and make the corn less sweet, then boiling the enzymes will cause them to deactivate, which doesn't allow them to convert the sugar into starch. Therefore, the corn will remain sweeter.

Consider that when the enzyme is heated that its physical structure changes, meaning that it may not be able to fit the sugar molecule in its activation site. Meaning that the sugar can no longer bind to the enzyme to create starch, which again leaves it sweeter.

*activation site - site where the substrate (sugar) bonds to the enzyme in order for a chemical change to occur to the substrate.
